MULTI-GENRE MIXING INCLUDING SWANA SOUNDS
We are excited to hand over hosting duties for our next online DJ workshop to British-Lebanese music producer and DJ, Saliah. In this session, Saliah will give you an insight into how she blends South West Asian and North African (SWANA) sounds, sharing multi-genre mixing techniques to help you connect with crowds and energise dance floors. She will cover:
- Digging, organising and editing music
- Track selection and building a flow
- Blends: beatmatching, FX and alternative timing structures
- Mixing in key: Arabic Tuning (Maqam) and using your ear
There will also be a Q&A with the opportunity to ask for direct input and advice.

Saliah’s stage presence and ability to connect with the crowd has won hearts across the globe; selling out all her international headline shows in 2023.
Their track Habibi Riddim was recently named Jaguar’s ‘Dancefloor moment’ on BBC Radio One, and she set the record for the first all-female line up to sell out a venue in Cairo, Egypt.
Saliah is continuously working behind the scenes supporting grass-roots organisations, teaching DJ workshops with a community-first mindset to leave a legacy that she describes as: “for us, by us”.

GENDER POLICY
The gender imbalance in the music technology industry is well-recognised. While we are absolutely not ‘anti-men’, we see that a shorter-term solution is to provide fellowship and learning environments that are not dominated by the cisgender male perspective. Therefore, these workshops are intended for women, non-binary, trans and gender non-conforming people to attend. While we do not ban cisgender men from attending, we hope that they will respect that this event is not intended for them.
