Marla Kether releases her debut EP ‘All That We Have’ on Saffron Records

Saffron Artist Development alumni Marla Kether marks the culmination of a year-long release campaign with the launch of her debut EP ‘All That We Have.’

After cementing her status as a masterful producer with the release of her 4 previous singles championed by the likes of Crack Magazine, Jamz Supernova, Shanti Celeste, Gilles Peterson and many more – Marla Kether celebrates the release of her debut EP with the title track ‘All That We Have’, featuring acclaimed jazz re:freshed vocalist Sofia Grant

Weaving Latin house and Brazilian Batucada into a lively and mesmerising fusion that transcends cultural boundaries, Kether continues to showcase a deep-rooted connection to the diverse sounds and styles that influence and are distilled within her craft. Led by flute and bass (which is exactly how the song began as a 16 bar loop), that track gradually developed with the addition of Will Fry’s rich layered percussion, Sofia’s rich, soaring vocals, and Brazilian-influenced nylon string guitar. The title is inspired by early recording sessions with previous collaborator Yazmin Lacey.

Exceeding 30 million Spotify streams as a session bassist for the likes of Yazmin Lacey, Oscar Jerome and Obongjayar, Marla now has 5 brilliant global dance floor tracks rolling out in her own right. Adept in collaboration, and a skillful bassist, the EP is a culmination of a year-long release campaign, with an array of featured artists including K.O.G, Plumm, Solomon O.B and more.

At the heart of the EP, Marla melds soulful intentions with dance floor inspired grooves. She builds a sound world that teems with a vibrant effervescence, with a core focus on the live feeling of everything. The tracks serve as a melting pot of the various regions, diasporas, and musical traditions she is connected to through community, heritage and her musical expression. This spans Afro house and Congolese soukous on ‘In My Corner’, the suave blend of jazz and electronica on ‘BTR2’, the house rhythms of ‘Revolve’, which features live Brazilian percussion, and the spoken word and dub electronic blend on ‘Juvenile Masculine’. In addition, of course, to the aforementioned title track.

This past year has been a busy one for Marla, playing her own DJ gigs and live band shows (as well as playing some of Europe’s biggest festivals this year as bassist for Loyle Carner) including Love Saves The Day and Forwards Festival. Coming up, there are a string of DJ sets supporting Loyle Carner in the US, followed by the live EP launch shows in London and Bristol. At the latter, she’ll be showcasing music from the EP as well as the future musical direction of the Marla Kether to come.
